Rugby In Lock down

As lock down continues across the county and in other places around the world we are seeing some very creative ways of staying in touch and keeping entertained and active.

The rugby community is no different. We are seeing a number of current and ex professionals upping their social media contact to try and help other people though this tough time.

We have got a number of podcast being recorded via online social distancing which in itself is very entertaining. i have seen a number of professionals putting up their workout routines and asking other people to join in with it.

We also have the RFU communicating via social media to announce the promotions and relegation's of teams across the country in all the leagues from Championship to the local county leagues.

The only results we are waiting for is the announcement for the premiership winners and the Championship winners and the team that will be relegated to National 1.

We of course know the team from the Premiership that is going to be relegated which was announced at Christmas. In case you don't know it is Saracens.

Some of my personal favourite things that i have seen are the House of Rugby podcast which is being recorded weekly, watching the podcast of YouTube is a bit odd as its just three screens with the heads of the presenters.

Still does not stop James Haskell from talking more than everyone else but hey that is why i love the podcast.

Watching some of the rugby players hit tackle bags in their gardens is also very enjoyable especially the players who have kids and are trying to avoid all the garden toys while rolling around on the floor in full kit.

I have to say it is a very eye opening and personal time for people in which i mean that we are seeing that although some of these people may have more money and nicer things in and around their homes they are still having to do what everyone else is doing to stay fit and entertained.

We are seeing a more personal side to all the players and getting closer to seeing what they are really like as people away from the field of play.

Watching people like Henry Slade race his dog down the road outside his home while he is doing some sprint training, seeing Chris Robsaw working out in his kitchen and garden. Both of these videos show that they are being just normal people but by showing it via social media it is helping others to try and get active while in Lock down. Some of the players are putting up there work outs for you to join in on and are doing daily workouts via Instagram live and YouTube. If you have time and want to have a look at a rugby player workout look up the videos.

Rugby as a sport like many other sports and business is struggling though this time and players are going to be struggling just like the rest of us.

There are only a few players that make really big money in the game and there are a lot of players who will not earn great money but like a number of us have had to take pay cuts. So while we have some great stuff coming in though social media form not only the top players but from all round the rugby community it is important to remember that just because they are professional sportsman it does not make they rich and they will need you r support as much as we want to have theirs. So if you have the time i urge you to look up some players, follow them on social media and send them some supportive messages as well. Remember we are in this together.
